My Story
I was born in South Dakota, but raised in Jennings, LA. I love everything about Louisiana
– the food, culture, and friendly hospitality! I attended McNeese State University where I graduated with honors majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology. Because of my immense interests in the sciences, I explored various healthcare fields and found extreme fulfillment in caring for and helping others. After shadowing several optical offices, optometry was clearly the career path for me! I was fascinated that we could bend light rays to meet our visual needs, regardless of whether it’s through glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. My favorite aspect of optometry is the immediate gratification from helping people see and feel better.
My Experiences
After working as an ophthalmic assistant, I completed mystudies with honors and obtained my Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. It was during my internships at several eye care practices thatI reaffirmed my passion for vision science. Throughout my internships, I had the pleasure of seeing more than 2,000 patient encounters in diverse clinical settings where I diagnosed, treated, and managed a wide range of eye diseases. I also performed non-invasive procedures including YAG laser capsulotomies to remove cloudy scar tissue that can develop behind a lens implant after cataract surgery and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) to reduce intraocular pressure for the treatment of glaucoma. From treating eye emergencies and infections to removing foreign objects from the front surface of the eye, my love for eye care soars each and every day.
My Purpose
I thrive on professional engagements and am an active member of several optometric associations with certification to perform authorized ophthalmic surgery procedures. Through optometry, my goal is to maximize the visual freedom of others by treating eye disease, prescribing corrective lenses, or recommending eye surgery. In my spare time, I enjoy running and bodyweight fitness. I also love to kick back with a great book or spend time with family and friends.
